Thanks a Billion!

Our mission is to connect people and communities to jobs and opportunities, and CapMetro has been transforming Central Texas lives for the past 35 years. We look forward to the next billion!

Clean Air

Cleaner Air for Our Tomorrow

Our first electric buses rolled out in January with artwork created by kids from Campbell Elementary.

Our 1 billion customers have saved more than 445,000 tons of greenhouse gases that would’ve been in the air if they’d driven alone. As more people choose CapMetro, cleaner air will be the result!

Thanks a Billion!

Thanks a Billion!

¡Cada vez más pasajeros!

Hasta febrero, la cantidad de pasajeros ha aumentado durante 16 meses
consecutivos. Los usuarios están respondiendo de forma positiva no

More People Are Riding CapMetro!

MorePeopleRiding_NewsBanner

Our focus at CapMetro is on the customer. We serve the people of Central Texas and, to do the job right, we’ve got to provide a positive rider experience.

That was the thinking behind our Cap Remap changes in 2018. We needed to give you a better ride, a more reliable ride for more people to try transitIf you need to get to work, we need to get you there on time.

You’ve responded by taking us up on our offer of better service to the tune of a 4.5% increase in ridership for the year after Cap Remap. It’s continued with increases in the months since that anniversary too, with last month charting a better than 8% increase over September 2018!

That focus on the customer is also what’s driven a lot of what we’ve done over the past year or two: new bus shelters, better technology that powers our real-time data, more timely and accurate information and messaging to our customers, opening the new Westgate Transit Center … and the list goes on.

In the coming year, you’ll see even more from us, with new Pickup service zones, more than 100 new bus shelters to provide better shade and protection from the elements and the new CapMetro App with its better experience.

Thanks for your confidence in us. Thanks for making us a part of your daily experience. And, thank you for riding.

Ridership Since Cap Remap:

  • Up 8.9% in July 2019
  • Up 4.5% for the full year
  • Up 11 of 12 months

New Performance Dashboards Offer Peak Behind the Scenes

By Reinet Marneweck, Capital Metro CFO

Today, Capital Metro officially launched our online Performance Dashboards on CapMetro.org after presenting them to our board of directors. The initiative is another step in Capital Metro’s effort to be transparent and provide data in a clear and efficient manner, both for our board and the public.

The new Performance Dashboards will track metrics in four important categories:

  • Ridership
  • Safety
  • Service Reliability
  • Financial Transparency

These dashboards will collect data from our various internal systems across multiple applications. They’ll replace quarterly reports agency staff has been providing to board members, as well as the monthly ridership stats posted online. We think the dashboards will result in better data-driven decision-making, improved data consistency and increased transparency.

The quality of the information provided will increase greatly with the Performance Dashboards. As an example, we formerly had provided a spreadsheet with raw ridership data divided among services and service providers. The Ridership Dashboard, on the other hand, will provide context for that data. It will show systemwide year-over-year trends (for the entire system or for an individual route) and display the top five routes over the past two years. It will also offer views on ridership by route for different parts of the week, be it weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

Ridership-Dashboard

This is also an ongoing project that will grow and change. We’ll soon augment the Ridership Dashboard with in-depth route-by-route information and add a scorecard measuring our performance against the Capital Metro Strategic Plan.

To view the Performance Dashboards, scroll to the bottom of any page on our website and click the button labeled “Performance.”

We also want to hear from you and to discover what you are interested in learning about. If there’s data that you don’t see but wish you had access to, please let us know by emailing Feedback@CapMetro.org. (Be sure to put Performance Dashboards in the subject line, so we can keep track and forward it to the appropriate team.)

Capital Metro Moved More People Than Ever in 2012

DP

We’ve crunched all the numbers for 2012, and here’s the bottom line: Capital Metro knocked it out of the park in 2012.

During 2012, we provided an average 112,000 rides each weekday—enough passengers to completely fill both the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and Disch-Falk Field combined.

The proof that central Texans are choosing Capital Metro as a preferred way to get around lies in our numbers–in 2012 we provided over 34 million boardings–more trips than the population of Texas!

Across the nation, more people are turning to public transit as the preferred transportation choice, but Capital Metro’s growth rate far exceeds the national trend. Here at home, our fixed-route bus ridership is boasting a 22-month growth streak, and MetroRail ridership has tripled in two years.

See the growth in our bus ridership for yourself–2011 compared to 2012 below:

PR2

2012 was a big year for MetroRail too! We’ve got more people riding the rails every single day with an average 2,200 boardings each weekend.

In 2012, MetroRail hit a milestone of its one millionth passenger trip, and ridership increased nearly 50 percent in 2012 over 2011.

Rail’s popular! See the ridership spike:

Capital Metro made progress in 2012 by analyzing service and making changes towards creating a more efficient system.

Going into 2013, we’re excited to keep  driving progress by working hard at planning for the region’s future with high-capacity transit solutions, like MetroRapid, that will move more people at less cost and with less impact to the environment.

We are also focused on the regional planning effort, Project Connect, that has developed a high-capacity transit vision to keep all of us in Central Texas moving and connected.

How are we driving progress? Check out this super sweet video that breaks it down:
