Capital Metro is the Best Ride to Austin City Limits

We know you music lovers are focused on finding the best shows and sets during the Austin City Limits music festival — we don’t blame you. We want to help you get there as fast and easily as possible.

That’s why we’re partnering with ACL again this year to bring you FREE shuttle service from Republic Square to the music’s doorstep — at Zilker Park.

It’s easy. From Oct. 12 – 14 all you need to do is get to Republic Square. Walk, ride your bike, catch a bus, use the train. We’ve even cranked out this super-easy-to-use map to help you choose the best bus route for you. Check it out.

How to get to the shuttles:

– Take several regular Capital Metro routes, including routes 4, 21 and 22 (check map for other routes)

– Take MetroRail into downtown Austin (Friday/Saturday)

After ACL:

– Use Capital Metro’s Night Owl and E-Bus routes, (run until about 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights)

During ACL, regular bus service will be detoured for route #30/Barton Creek around the area on 4th and Barton Springs west of Lamar.

Use the Trip Planner or check our ACL webpage for planning your weekend travels.

Hassle-free. Cheap. Safe. You rock. We’ll roll.

Plan your trip to ACL

People queued up for the short shuttle ride to ACL, in 2010.

Each day this week, we’ve been entertained by Marketing Manager Cynthia Lucas’ 2011 ACL playlist, which has added some audio flair to the Marketing/PR office over here at Capital Metro headquarters. If you’ve ridden with us on the Austin City Limits Music Festival shuttle before, you know about Cynthia’s playlist that she creates each year to entertain you during your short wait for a shuttle at Republic Square.

Beginning tomorrow through Sunday, you’ll be able to hear the 2011 iteration, when the shuttle buses start rolling at 10 a.m. from Republic Square Park at 5th and Guadalupe to Zilker Park.

The last bus leaves Republic Square Park for ACL at 8 p.m. The last returning bus back to Republic Square heads out about 30 minutes after the final band leaves the stage each night.

The shuttle is free, and it’s the best way to get to Zilker Park (aside from biking!), as there is no parking at the festival.

With just a tiny bit of planning, you can skip parking altogether and ride one of Capital Metro’s regular bus routes to Republic Square.  (Remember the new parking meter hours have gone into effect downtown!) Many of Capital Metro’s regular routes will get you within a block or two of the shuttle bus loading zone, and it only costs a dollar.  Check out the map here.

If your good times continue well past the last band leaves the stage, no worries. On Friday and Saturday nights, Capital Metro’s Night Owl and E-Bus routes run until about 3 a.m. between downtown and neighborhoods throughout the city. (Plan ahead on Sunday night as there is no late night service—Capital Metro buses run until about 10-11 p.m. on Sunday.)

We hope to see you on the bus, whether it’s a regular route or the free ACL shuttle. Let us know how you like the tunes!

FREE front door service to ACL Fest

Are you planning to attend the Austin City Limits festival this weekend at Zilker Park? We are all a-buzz in the office here, because for the 9th year, we’ll be providing free shuttles to/from the festival and Republic Square Park.

Click on the map to open a larger version. Most routes serving downtown will get you close to Republic Square Park, where you can catch a free shuttle to ACL.

The shuttles begin at 10 a.m. each day and the last departure from Republic Square to Zilker Park is at 8 p.m. The last shuttle returns passengers after the festival around 11 p.m.

Parking is not provided at the festival. Patrons are encouraged to ride Capital Metro to the shuttle boarding site at Republic Square Park. Several routes drop off within a block of Republic Square, and most regular routes provide service until midnight.

Another option – Ride one of Capital Metro’s regular routes followed by a short walk to the festival: 3, 5, 30 and 338. Capital Metro encourages festival-goers to plan their trip ahead of time using our online trip planner. Or plan your trip on the fly using Dadnab, a free mobile texting application.

Fares apply on regular Capital Metro routes. Purchase a MetroBus Day Pass for just $2 onboard the bus and get unlimited rides for 24 hours.
