South Congress Avenue (SoCo) isn’t just an iconic Austin street, it’s a Texas landmark. Sloping gently down to a view of the Texas Capitol, it’s a grand avenue littered with restaurants, shopping, bars, and events. Not to mention a constant supply of live music. With only a limited amount of time in town, it’s hard to find the best spots — unless we turn it into a game! Join us for a sunset SoCo Scavenger Hunt followed by an American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Social Hour at Guero’s Taco Bar.
MAKE IT A TRANSIT ADVENTURE! The CapMetro Team team is providing FREE DAY PASSES so you can enjoy a silly sojourn up-and-down the SoCo Strip! Are you ready to #TryTransit?
5:00 PM | MEET-UP | Join us in Westin Downtown lobby so we can make our way to the bus station together.
5:15 PM | CATCH THE 801 | Republic Square Station SB (Stop ID #5867)
5:30 PM | SOCO SCAVENGER HUNT | We’ve created a team-based scavenger hunt to introduce you to all the best spots along the SoCo strip! And we’ve got prizes for the first place finishers.
6:30 PM | APTA SOCIAL HOUR | Join us afterwards at Guero’s Taco Bar for a “pay-your-own-way” happy hour, dinner, or just to chat and catch up with friends & colleagues.
8:00 PM | END OF ADVENTURE | Head back downtown on the 801– or stay on SoCo for one last night on the town….
SOUTH CONGRESS AVENUE isn’t just an iconic Austin street, it’s a Texas landmark. Sloping gently down to a view of the Texas Capitol, it’s a grand avenue littered with restaurants, shopping, bars, and events. Not to mention a constant supply of live music. Only the best businesses survive here, so you can be sure it’s worth your time. Austin just wouldn’t be Austin without South Congress, and it’s the vein that leads straight to the heart of Texas.
WHAT ABOUT THE BATS? Just North of the SoCo Strip is the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge, which is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. When they emerge in the evening during “bat season,” it’s like a cloud flying toward the east. The best time to see the bats is at sunset (8:28PM) that night. The best place to see the bats is at The Austin-American Statesman Bat Observation Center on the southeast side of the South Congress Bridge, which is free and open to the public.
