The agency performs a continuous analysis of its service, and makes adjustments three times a year, utilizing feedback obtained from the public prior to each change. Last year saw over a million more bus trips taken than the previous year, a direct result of streamlining and improving connectivity of routes throughout Capital Metro’s 522 square-mile service area.
Some of the changes taking place Jan. 13 include a new Domain stop along the #466 Kramer Rail Connector route, updates to routes in the Westgate Mall area to improve connectivity and coverage, improved connectivity to H-E-B and LBJ High School in northeast Austin, and a route extension on the #228 Burleson route to provide access to the new Central Texas Veteran’s Administration Clinic.
The service changes scheduled to begin this Sunday include:
Schedule Adjustments – Capital Metro will improve schedule frequency to the following routes:
o 18 MLK Jr./Enfield – Weekday frequency will be adjusted to improve schedule reliability. Morning weekday frequency will be reduced due to low ridership.
o 325 Ohlen – Trips will be added during weekday morning and afternoon to address overcrowding.
Southwest and Southeast Austin – The following changes will be made to improve crosstown service and access to Westgate Mall and ACC Riverside:
o 5 Woodrow/South Fifth – Route will be extended west to Monterey Oaks.
o 238 Westgate –Feeder route will be added along Westgate Boulevard, from Westgate Mall to Slaughter.
o 311 Stassney – Route will be extended east along Stassney and Montopolis to ACC Riverside, and shortened to Westgate Mall.
o 338 Lamar/45th – Route will be shortened to Westgate Mall.
Northcross –The following route changes will be made to improve access to Northcross and improve bus stop accessibility:
o 3 Burnet/Manchaca – Loop around the Northcross development will be eliminated for southbound buses only.
o 5 Woodrow/South Fifth, 323 Anderson, 325 Ohlen – Route around the Northcross development will be reversed (will run clockwise instead of counterclockwise).
o 19 Bull Creek – Route will be shortened to Northcross and Foster.
o 20 Manor/Riverside – Route will be shortened to Manor and Springdale.
o 37 Colony Park – Route will be realigned to Manor, Pecan Brook and Crystalbrook Dr. to improve access to H-E-B and LBJ High School. Millrace and Colony Park segment will be eliminated due to low ridership.
o 151 Allandale, 161 Delwood – Low ridership segments will be eliminated.
Other route changes:
o 228 Burleson – Route will be extended to provide access to new Central Texans Veteran’s Administration Clinic, located on Metropolis Drive. Smith School Rd. segment will be eliminated due to low ridership.
o 466 Kramer Rail Connector – Route will be extended to provide direct access to the Domain, and minor schedule adjustments will be made to coordinate with Kramer Station MetroRail arrivals/departures.
All changes are in-line with the Capital Metro’s Service Guidelines and Standards.
