Have you tried a car-free Friday lately? We’ve been encouraging people to give it a try in March, and ride Capital Metro, walk or bike instead. On Fridays in March, we’re extending hours on Capital MetroRail, with the last train leaving Downtown Station at 11:30 p.m.
We’re looking for your car-free Friday tales, and if you share them you’ll be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to Pete Yorn at Stubb’s on April 16, plus dinner for two at Eddie V’s and a one-night stay at the Driskill Hotel. That is a serious night out!
The winner will be drawn this Friday morning, March 25, so you only have two days left to enter the sweepstakes! (Entries must be be received by 8:30 a.m. this Friday!) To enter, “like us” on facebook, then click on the Sweepstakes link on Capital Metro’s Facebook page.
We’ve heard some great stories about people’s Car-Free Fridays. There’s still one more chance to experience evening MetroRail service, this Friday, March 25. View the Friday extended service schedule.
Need some inspiration? Here’s how others are enjoying a car-free Friday:
“My girlfriend and I took the train from Kramer station right near our house downtown for a great sushi dinner. Keep the Friday evening service going please!”
“My 3 year old son and I will catch the train out of the Lakeline station and stop at Starbucks for a mocha and vanilla milk when we arrive downtown. Then off to the Austin Children’s Museum for some fun.”
“I walked to work from S. Congress to Downtown Austin, walked back to get ready and walked back downtown to kick off SXSW at Malverde….ended with a Pedi-cab home!”
“For SXSW, I discovered a bus route that runs a block away from my house on Rundberg. It took me right to downtown. From there I was able to see the convention, a bunch of movies, and a comedy show without losing time or beer money on a parking space. It really was easy!”
“I take the MetroRail from the Kramer Station to class at Brackenridge Hospital where I am studying Nursing through ACC. I LOVE USING MY ACC issued FREE PASS to ride the rail!!!”
“With the weather changing to Spring it was time to spring into step. I left the car on the carport and decided to get an early start to go get my kids from school. When I let them know we were walking all the way home they were upset but then I offered to carry their school bags home and before I knew it we were having a great time viewing the neighborhood.”
