Rock & Rail

rock n rail graphicWe’re having a rock & rail weekend, April 30 and May 1, and I hope you can come!

On Friday afternoon, April 30, Capital Metro is hosting a free customer appreciation concert featuring Cienfuegos and W.C. Clark at Brush Square directly across from the Downtown MetroRail Station at 401 E. 4th Street.

Cienfuegos takes the stage from 3:45-4:45 p.m., and W.C. Clark will play from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Catch a free ride to the concert via one of three rail connector bus routes that serve the Downtown Station. Routes 460, 461 and 462 will offer free service the afternoon of April 30.

On Saturday, May 1, Capital Metro invites Central Texans to enjoy riding MetroRail during a special—one Saturday only—service. Regular fares apply, and rail connector bus routes will not be in service.

Many local events are taking place on May 1, and MetroRail can be a great way to travel to and from Saturday destinations. Trains will begin service around 11:00 a.m. and run every hour from all nine stations until 11:30 p.m. The last train will leave Downtown Station headed north at 10:30 p.m. The full schedule is posted on our Web site, as well as behind the jump.

  1. I agree with DK – Saturday service would be quite awesome.

It would also be awesome if the weekday service ran the full route more often instead of doing half routes half the time and it’d be awesome if the weekday service ran in the middle of the day, too.

The Rock & Rail event was great. I took the rail from Howard to Downtown, enjoyed the Pecan Street festival and returned home. The train was crowded but clean and cool. All the Cap Metro staff were friendly and helpful. The ride was very smooth.

I would love to take the rail downtown for dinner and entertainment on evenings and weekends when that service is offered. I’m looking forward to a great future of rail service in Austin.
