As we’re just five days away from MetroRail trains running their full morning and afternoon schedules, and just a few weeks away from MetroRail trains carrying passengers, it’s important we do everything we can to promote safety around railroad crossings, trains, and train tracks. Capital Metro will be distributing new rail safety Public Service Announcements to news stations this week and next. The PSAs were created by the national nonprofit Operation Lifesaver. We’ll be previewing one of the PSAs this afternoon for some news teams, and here it is for you, too.
If you have a neighborhood Web site or email list, please consider posting the video or forwarding the link. There are six PSAs total that we’ll be distributing, including two in Spanish. View/download all of them from our YouTube channel.
Let’s keep our community safe!
The real rail safety issue is the crossings along Airport Boulevard, most importantly 51st St:

and Capital Metro has done nothing, nothing at all, to address these issues (no, telling motorists not to block the tracks doesn’t count when they effectively MUST risk being stuck on the tracks if they ever wish to get on 51st or turn on to Clarkson).
