Ride the bus to Zilker Tree

Capital Metro is increasing service on Route 30 to make it easier for you and your family to visit the Zilker Tree Holiday Festival.  The City of Austin’s  Zilker Tree Holiday Festival begins this weekend and includes light displays, Santa’s House, nightly entertainment, concessions and, of course, the Zilker Tree.

Each night of the festival (Dec. 13-21) buses will run begin running every 10-15 minutes at 5:30 p.m. on Route 30, which travels along Barton Springs Road. Buses will operate all evening, with the last bus departing Zilker Park at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Festival-goers can catch the bus at numerous locations along Route 30 that permit public parking. Route 30 drops off right outside Zilker Park.

A one-way trip for adults is 75 cents, for children 6–18 it’s 35 cents. Children five and under ride free. That’s less than $5 roundtrip for a family of four! Our fareboxes do not return change, so you’ll get the best value by paying with exact change only.

Erica, this isn’t completely on-topic, but can you please suggest to the powers-that-be that Capital Metro stop putting “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” on the electronic displays on the front and side of the buses?

My eyesight sucks, and it’s hard enough for me to tell what bus is approaching….it’s not the time to wish me “HAPPY HOLIDAYS.”

Ditto with the “HOOK ‘EM HORNS” messages. Those signs are supposed to serve one purpose, and only one purpose, and that’s to tell me which bus I’m looking at.

The bus driver is more than welcome to wish me happy holidays.
