Austin-based high tech company Valence is interested in building a new production facility in Leander. One of the company’s big attractions is the proposed site’s proximity to Capital Metro’s passenger and freight rail line. Here are a couple of yesterday’s TV news stories about it:
Uh, the rail stop is a mile south of the plant; and there’s not a lot of reverse commute trips planned for the Red Line. How, precisely, is this going to ‘work’?
Yes, I’m all for more reverse commute trips, thank you, since my workplace is up north as well. Can’t wait for Valence’s half billion dollar plant to open.
Unfortunately, I don’t suspect that employees at the plant will want to settle in urban Austin just to take the train up north to Leander. They’ll probably be better off settling closer to Leander. And I’m sure a 2 million sq ft battery plant will have lots of employee parking space, too.
